Steve Wylie is a REALTOR® with Regency Properties in beautiful West Jefferson, North Carolina. One of the most common stories that Ashe and Watauga residents share is the fact that they visited the area with family or friends, fell in love with the region and decided to make it their home.
I first discovered Ashe County in 2002 while visiting family who had rented a home in Fleetwood Falls for an extended summer vacation. We quickly fell in love with Ashe County and within two months of this first visit, we had purchased a log cabin in Twin Bridges overlooking the New River. Even though we were living and working in Charlotte, we spent almost every weekend and vacation in our cabin and cherished the time we were able to spend here. Fast-forward to 2010 and we have just completed construction of a new home in Todd and are now calling the High Country our permanent home.
I started my real estate career in 1986 after earning my MBA degree from UNC Chapel Hill. I spent the next 25 years focusing on the development, management, acquisition and sales of apartment communities around the US. Most recently I was a partner at Wood Partners in Charlotte where I oversaw operations of 59 apartment communities with 15,000 homes located in 13 states from Maryland to Florida to California. Over my ten years at Wood, I coordinated the sale of 40 apartment properties for $1.4 billion. In this phase of my career, I also underwrote the acquisition of $400 million of apartment properties and the sale of $50 million of retail properties.
I left Wood Partners in late 2009 and started looking for a new way to exercise my passion for Real Estate. I was tired of constant travel and wanted to find a less stressful way of life. It didn’t take too long for us to realize that relocating full-time to Ashe County was the answer. I obtained my real estate license and joined the Regency team in 2010. Even though I wanted less stress, I still wanted a successful career and Regency Properties in the best agency in Ashe County. It’s a perfect fit!
